Conventional analogue cameras connected via coaxial cable are ideal if you are require a more simple stand alone local system, whilst IP cameras (LAN/WAN) are more flexible and allow you to view live CCTV images remotely over the internet and record images on to a PC on the same network.

You can also choose to use colour or monochrome cameras; although colour cameras make identification easier, they are less sensitive than monochrome cameras in poor light conditions and therefore additional white light may need to be considered.

Higher quality cameras come as both colour and monochrome, the camera will transmit colour images during the day in good lighting conditions, but when the light fades will automatically switch to monochrome to provide and enhanced image, many of these camera units also have infra red LED lights built in to provide additional lighting source when the monochrome element is active.
