Detect Chooses Brain Tumour Trust as its chosen charity.
1st September 2018
Ever year at Detect we have the chance to nominate our chosen charity that the company will then support for the following year.
With a host of nominations for some very worthwhile causes it was Sam Ellis who provided the Brain Tumour Trust as his choice.
The reason that Sam put this forward is because of a little superhero called Harry St Ledger who is local Portsmouth lad who has hit the local and national news. Sam personally knows the family.
Six-year-old Harry was diagnosed with a suspected diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) after what should have been a straightforward procedure to fit a grommet in his ear revealed a sinister growth in his brain. His tumour type has a shockingly poor prognosis and limited treatment is available. There is no option for Harry who will battle for his life dressed as Spider-Man, his favourite superhero. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.
